Interoperability and Patient Access

Access to your healthcare data and health plan information can be made available via a member interoperability portal or your healthcare application which uses Interoperability Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

An Interoperability API is software that helps two unrelated computers or applications (apps) work together, allowing them to share data.

Because your healthcare data includes sensitive and protected information such as your personal identification information, patient history, plan coverage, or claim details, only apps that meet federal technical, content, and vocabulary standards are permitted to access your healthcare data. You are responsible for ensuring that any app you choose follows HIPAA requirements and other applicable laws and regulations.
