Interoperability API

Using Interoperability Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)

An Interoperability API is software that helps two unrelated computers or applications (apps) work together, allowing them to share data. Use of APIs is common today. You may already be using APIs if you use apps on your phone. APIs are also necessary if you choose to use an app to access your personal healthcare data or plan information.

Because your healthcare data includes sensitive and protected information such as your personal identification information, patient history, plan coverage, or claim details, only apps that meet federal technical, content, and vocabulary standards are permitted to access your healthcare data. You are responsible for ensuring that any app you choose follows HIPAA requirements and other applicable laws and regulations.
